The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has made a landmark decision by appointing Rob Friend, a former Canadian national team player, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Harimau Malaya. With an impressive track record in football management, Friend is poised to inject fresh energy and strategic vision into the national team. Rob Friend’s Impressive Background

Rob Friend hails from Rosetown, Saskatchewan, and boasts a rich history in football management post-retirement. After hanging up his boots in December 2014, he transitioned into various leadership roles, including managing partner at DRG Investment Group, a real estate firm. He also founded Toca Football Canada, a training technology company, which saw a capital surge to US$150 million (RM670 million). Currently, he is a managing partner at SixFive Sports Fund, focusing on investments in professional football and infrastructure.

One of Friend’s most notable achievements is co-founding the Canadian Premier League (CPL), which grew its value from zero to US$300 million (RM1.34 billion) within six years. He also played a pivotal role in leading Pacific FC and Vancouver FC, two CPL clubs, demonstrating his prowess in top-tier football management.

Strategic Development and Future Plans

As CEO, Friend will oversee the strategic development and overall operations of Harimau Malaya. His responsibilities will span player acquisitions, coaching staff appointments, sponsorship deals, and financial oversight. His mission is to elevate the national team, particularly focusing on the senior and U-23 squads, through meticulous planning and innovative programs.
