Kuala Lumpur, Nov 14 — Netflix has announced a price hike for its subscription plans in Malaysia, with the Premium account now costing RM62.90 per month. This increase of RM7.90 is part of a broader adjustment affecting all Netflix plans in the country.

Here’s a breakdown of the new pricing:

  • Mobile Plan: RM18.90/month (previously RM17)
  • Basic Plan: RM29.90/month (previously RM28)
  • Standard Plan: RM49.90/month (previously RM45)
  • Premium Plan: RM62.90/month (previously RM55)

Subscribers who wish to share their Standard or Premium plans with users outside their household will still be able to do so for an additional fee of RM13 per user per month.

The price hike comes as Netflix continues to refine its pricing strategy to remain competitive and improve profitability. Earlier this year, Netflix reduced the price of its Basic plan from RM35 to RM28 in an effort to attract a broader audience. However, the recent increase suggests a shift towards focusing on higher margins.

Astro customers who have bundled Netflix with their TV packages will not see the price hike until March 1, 2025. This temporary reprieve allows existing customers to continue enjoying Netflix at the current rates for a few more months.

Netflix’s decision to increase subscription prices is part of its global strategy to maximize revenue amid growing competition from other streaming platforms like Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO GO.

Conclusion

As Netflix continues to adapt its pricing and subscription models, Malaysian subscribers will need to review their current plans to ensure they are getting the best value for their viewing habits. The company’s efforts to balance competitive pricing with profitability will be crucial as it navigates the evolving streaming landscape.
